DIY Glow In The Dark Glitter Slime: Fun, Safe, & Easy For Kids To Make

My kids are IN LOVE with slime!! Can anyone relate?? We have used Elmer’s Slime recipe countless times which I love for the simplicity and the safety (glue, baking soda, and saline solution), but after a while it became a bit boring (too simple). So, we played around with different combinations and came up with a slime that is both simple and creative (and can be adjusted by each child)…GLOW IN THE DARK GLITTER SLIME!!

The foundation for this slime is from Elmer’s as I mentioned before, but I will show you how your kids, like mine, can create whatever slime they want from different glues and how to adjust the activator to whatever amount of glue is used.

Ready to get a little messy and have some fun?

ADDING THE GLUE

1. Add the glow in the dark glue to the container. You can add as much or as little as you like. We added about half the bottle.

2. Add the glitter glue to the container. Again, you can add as much or as little as you like. We added about half the bottle as well.

If you have additional colors of either type of glue, you can add them as well. My daughter added some purple to the pink glues.

Here are the containers of my daughter and her friend, so you can see that there is no “right” amount or way to add the glue.

ADDING SLIME ACTIVATOR

When we talk about “slime activator” we are actually talking about baking soda and saline solution, 2 easy to find household ingredients. We are going to start out with the amounts Elmers recommends for making slime from glue and then I will show you how to adjust for the amount of glue you have.

3. Add 1/2 TB of baking soda and 1 TB of saline solution to your container and begin to mix everything together with your popsicle stick.

4. As you start to mix you will notice that it is still very sticky. Add another tsp of baking soda and saline solution and stir.

ADJUSTING THE ACTIVATOR AMOUNT TO CREATE SLIME

Now is when we start to adjust the amounts of baking soda and saline solution added to get the finished slime. This is why we can add whatever amount of glue we want (because we can adjust to turn any amount into slime).

5. If the slime is not too sticky at this point you can pick it up and start to knead it in your hands to finish combining. If it is still too sticky to pick up, look at the container. Is there any liquid (saline solution) in the bottom? If yes, add a bit of baking soda and mix. If no, add some saline solution and mix. Continue in this fashion until you can pick it up and knead it.

If it is sticky in your hands, like the pic below, then put it back in the container and repeat the advice above.

6. When you are finished kneading the slime (it should no longer be sticky), place it in an air tight container (note the ones below weren’t air tight, so I switched to the simple plastic takeout containers we used for mixing).

And there you have it! Glow in the dark glitter slime that little hands can easily make without a huge mess or harsh ingredients! Enjoy!
